In a statement that’s stirring conversations across Ghana, petroleum expert Adorye has weighed in on the ongoing fuel crisis, making a bold argument: it’s better to pay GH¢20 for fuel you can actually get than chase GH¢10 fuel that doesn’t exist.

Speaking to reporters, Adorye emphasized the value of availability over price, highlighting the risks and frustrations of chasing subsidized or artificially cheap fuel that the market simply cannot supply. “A lower price is meaningless if the fuel isn’t on the pump,” he said, noting that accessibility ensures transport, business, and daily life keep moving.

The remarks come amid widespread shortages, long queues, and anxious commuters navigating a disrupted fuel market. For many Ghanaians, the temptation of cheaper fuel is strong—but the reality is that supply constraints make GH¢10 fuel almost mythical.

Adorye also warned against hoarding and black-market practices, pointing out that cheap, scarce fuel often ends up in the hands of a few, leaving ordinary consumers stranded. By contrast, paying slightly more for guaranteed access prevents disruption and keeps the economy functioning.

The comments have ignited debate online, with some praising the practical wisdom and others lamenting the rising costs. One thing is clear: in Ghana’s current fuel landscape, availability is king, and convenience may well outweigh cost.

As the nation grapples with the crisis, Adorye’s perspective is a reminder that sometimes paying more is the only way to keep life—and engines—running.
