Ghana’s “Big Push” infrastructure initiative moved into high gear this week as the Minister for Roads and Highways led a comprehensive inspection tour of key road projects across the Greater Accra Region, including the Tema Motorway expansion and the Adenta-Dodowa Road project. The tour, conducted on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, is part of the government’s effort to accelerate road construction, reduce congestion, and boost economic activity through strategic infrastructure upgrades.

During the inspections, the Minister and his team assessed progress on major corridors, including the widening and redevelopment of the Tema Motorway, the Adenta-Dodowa Road, the Tema-Aflao Road, and other critical routes serving urban and peri-urban areas. The Minister expressed cautious satisfaction with the pace of work and emphasized that contractors are being paid for certified work to keep projects on schedule.

Officials highlighted that the “Big Push” programme is designed not only to improve transport networks but also to strengthen the local construction industry by engaging and paying local contractors promptly. The programme, which covers dozens of major road projects nationwide, is expected to deliver key arteries by the end of 2027, though contractors have been urged to expedite preparatory works to avoid delays.

The inspections come amid public scrutiny over infrastructure spending and project transparency. Government officials have reiterated that progress will be closely monitored to ensure that these road projects are completed efficiently and provide tangible benefits to motorists, businesses, and communities across the country.
