At least four people have lost their lives and several others sustained injuries after a sprinter bus collided with a trailer truck on the Buipe–Tamale Highway in the Juaboso District. The tragic accident occurred on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Sawaba No. 2, when the bus was travelling from Buipe to Kumasi.
Emergency responders rushed 19 passengers to the Buipe Government Hospital, while firefighters extricated three people trapped inside the wreckage. Despite swift rescue efforts, four victims—two men and two women—were confirmed dead, with one of the deceased later dying at the hospital.
The driver of the trailer truck reportedly fled the scene and is currently being sought by authorities. Police and fire officials are investigating the circumstances of the collision and the reasons for the truck leaving the scene.
Survivors are receiving medical treatment, with several reported to be in serious condition. The incident has reignited calls for improved road safety measures on Ghana’s inter-regional highways. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
