Ghana’s Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced the official launch of the long-awaited recruitment of 7,000 new teachers, aimed at addressing critical teacher shortages across the country. The recruitment process is set to begin on Friday, April 10, 2026, following financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) will open its online recruitment portal on this date, allowing eligible candidates to submit their applications. The application period is expected to remain open until July 1, 2026, with the process designed to be transparent, competitive, and merit-based.
Graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts, including diploma and degree holders trained to teach, are invited to apply. Priority will be given to candidates willing to work in rural and underserved communities, where teacher shortages are most severe.
Officials emphasized that this recruitment drive is part of a broader plan to strengthen Ghana’s education system while providing meaningful employment for newly trained educators. The Ministry assures that fairness and efficiency will guide the entire process, which is being closely watched by both prospective teachers and education stakeholders nationwide.
The announcement marks a significant step toward tackling staffing gaps in schools and improving educational access for students across Ghana.
