As the much-anticipated Kwahu Easter festivities approach, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has announced a major emergency preparedness plan for the busy Accra–Kumasi Highway. Authorities are taking extensive measures to safeguard thousands of travelers expected to use the route.
With traffic volumes set to surge during the celebrations, GNFS has deployed fire officers and emergency personnel at strategic points along the highway to ensure rapid response to accidents, fires, or other emergencies. Officials stressed that fatigue, speeding, and reckless driving make the highway particularly dangerous during peak travel periods.
The emergency plan includes positioning fire tenders, rescue equipment, and trained personnel at key locations, along with increased coordination with other emergency agencies to guarantee fast and effective interventions. A GNFS spokesperson urged drivers and passengers to prioritize safety and follow road regulations.
Motorists have been specifically warned against over-speeding, wrongful overtaking, and driving while fatigued, behaviors that have historically contributed to tragic incidents during festive periods.
While the Kwahu Easter festivities promise paragliding spectacles and vibrant cultural events, authorities emphasize that safety remains the top priority. The GNFS warned that the success of the emergency plan depends heavily on travelers making responsible choices on the road.
The message is clear: celebrate responsibly to ensure a safe and joyful Easter season.
