Accra — The Minority in Parliament has publicly questioned the cost and ethics of former President John Dramani Mahama using his brother’s private jet for official state duties.
According to the Minority, the arrangement raises serious transparency and conflict-of-interest concerns, insisting that Ghanaians deserve full disclosure of any expenses involved, even if the state reportedly did not pay for the flights.
“Even if no money exchanged hands, the optics are concerning,” a Minority spokesperson said. “Leaders must avoid situations that could be perceived as mixing personal interests with public office.”
Supporters of Mahama argue that using a privately owned jet was a practical solution given limited state aviation resources, but critics say it sets a dangerous precedent for the use of family assets in official government business.
The issue has sparked debate on social media, with citizens and political analysts calling for clarity, accountability, and guidelines to prevent similar controversies in the future.
The Minority has urged relevant authorities to release all details of the arrangement, emphasizing that transparency is essential to maintain public trust in government operations.
