A night of relentless rainfall has left a trail of destruction in the Bekwai Municipality, with Denyaseman Senior High School and several surrounding communities counting their losses after a devastating downpour tore through the area.
What began as a steady shower quickly escalated into a fierce storm, unleashing powerful winds and flash floods that ripped off roofing sheets, damaged classrooms, and left parts of the school in ruins. Students and residents woke up to scenes of chaos—waterlogged compounds, debris scattered across properties, and vital infrastructure severely compromised.
Eyewitnesses described the rainfall as “unlike anything we’ve seen in years,” as drainage systems reportedly overflowed, forcing floodwaters into homes and school facilities. Personal belongings were destroyed, and academic activities at Denyaseman SHS now hang in the balance as authorities assess the extent of the damage.
Community leaders are urgently appealing for support, warning that without swift intervention, the aftermath could disrupt education and livelihoods for weeks. Parents, students, and residents alike are demanding immediate action to prevent a repeat of such devastation.
As Bekwai begins the daunting task of recovery, one question looms large: How prepared are communities for the growing threat of extreme weather?
