The actor, who also appeared in the sci-fi series Fringe and the action movie White House Down, passed away naturally.
The 60-year-old actor Lance Reddick, best known for his roles in The Wire and the John Wick series, has passed away.
His representative confirmed that he passed away at his home in Los Angeles of natural causes, as reported by numerous sources. In preparation for his role in John Wick, the actor had recently conducted interviews: Next week, Chapter 4 will be released. He decided earlier this week not to attend the film’s premiere in New York.
Reddick is best known for his role as Cedric Daniels, a Baltimore police lieutenant, in HBO’s hit crime drama The Wire. He had previously put in an audition for the roles of Bunk Moreland and Bubbles. During a time when television was predominantly white, it was uncommon for a prestige show to have a majority black cast. Reddick stated to the Guardian, “It wasn’t until I got off The Wire that I realized that wasn’t the normal experience.” By and large I see that it was truly unprecedented.”
He said in an interview in 2019 that he felt “very fortunate and proud of the work we did” and that it was “an iconic piece of history.”
Oz, Lost, Bosch, and a lead role in the sci-fi drama Fringe were among Reddick’s other roles on television. He also filmed the role of Zeus for the upcoming television adaptation of Percy Jackson before his death.
Reddick has appeared in White House Down, Sylvie’s Love, Brother to Brother, and the critically acclaimed John Wick film series. In addition to his performance in the fourth film after his death, it is believed that he shot a role for a spin-off called Ballerina, which was directed by Ana de Armas. Additionally, he will appear in the forthcoming White Men Can’t Jump remake.
To express his grief, The Wire creator David Simon issued a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. He wrote, “A consummate professional, a devoted collaborator, a beautiful soul, and a friend.” For those of us who knew and loved him, this is just heartbreaking and way, way, way too soon to even consider.
