The articulator truck driver who is suspected to have ran into Bibiani MCE’ s car which killed him on the spot has finally arrested according to reports from the Eastern Regional Police Command.
The Prosecutor Detective, Inspector Kamal Salifu Gumah who led a team of police officers to arrest the suspect narrated that his preliminary investigations indicate that the 32- year- old driver of the articulator truck with registration number AS 4229 X was speeding and decided to suddenly apply brakes on seeing vehicles ahead of him slowing down. Unfortunately, the Bibiani MCE and his driver was at a point of no return as they crashed with the suspect and died.
The Inspector revealed that per the road offenses code, the truck driver will be prosecuted before a competent court of jurisdiction with three charged. The first count is on careless and inconsiderate driving contrary to Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act 2004 (Act 683) as amended by Act 2008 Act 761 and the other two counts are on negligently causing harm contrary to Section 72 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960, Act 29.
The suspect is now in police custody and will assist investigations until he’ s arraigned before the court. When found guilty, the truck driver risk going to jail for 5 years per Road Safety Act 2004. ” A person who drives a motor vehicle on a road without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other person using the road commit an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding 2000 penalty unit or to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or to both”
Meanwhile the family of the deceased MCE has announced that an emergency meeting will be held with leadership of the New Patriotic Party to plan and schedule a date when his funeral and burial will be done.
