A woman dying during pregnancy, labor, or soon after labor is a tragedy for her family and society in general. It is a heartbreaking, devastating, and painful event we all pray won’ t happen to our loved ones. These Nigerian celebrities did not get the chance to enjoy the birth of their babies. Here are 10 Nigerian celebrities who died during childbirth or after labor.

MODUPE OYEKUNLE

The Nigerian actress died in the labor room while delivering her third child on April 4, 2017, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. His colleague in the industry Segun Ogungbe said Modupe bled for hours before she eventually passed on. Segun said ‘ ‘ I was told that after she gave birth, she kept bleeding, but they c told ould not stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, we lost her” . The actress who is known for her Segun Ogungbe’ s blockbuster movie Ibi Giga gave birth to a baby who survived”

FUFUNKE ABISOGUN ALHASSA

The Nigerian actress died four days after her delivery. Per the words of filmmaker Tunde Ola- Yusuf, Funke had welcomed her baby safely only to die four days after the baby was born. He wrote ” Just days ago, people celebrated with you for the delivery of Ur baby, now the Sun set at noon and U are no more…May God looks after the newborn child and gives Ur husband, the family, friends of the family and the industry at large the fortitude to bear the loss. Good night Funke Abisogun, wife of my brother Taofeek Al Hassan Abisogun”

MONU OLAIYA 

After two months of her delivery, the Nollywood actress died in Canada on May 17, 2017. A family member in an interview said ” Moji’s baby was born premature. Her EDD was for May 2017 but complications arose that necessitated that Moji be induced to save the baby’s life as well as hers”

Her family member added that she died around 10pm (Nigerian Time) due to a crisis after birth. Her family member continued “Her blood pressure shot up she got unconscious. An ambulance was called to transport her to the hospital. But her case worsened and she gave up the ghost before they could make it to the hospital” . Her daughter Mariam Ashabi Moropeda, is now five years old.

BISI KOMOLAFE

Best known for her role in the movies Igboro Ti Daru and Aramotu, BISI was a Nigerian actress, film director, and producer who passed away on December 31st, 2012, aged 26 years old. According to her medical complications, she died of related complications at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Although she received more than 30 units of blood at the hospital, KOMOLAFE’s health had deteriorated further before she passed on.

OLABISI MOMSURAT 

 

Also known as Brisket, the Lagos- based movie producer died on the 30th of March 20189, 10 days after welcoming her baby. Per reports, she died in a clinic in Lagos after welcoming her 6th child at age 47 years old. The report also indicates that she developed complications after birth.

BISI was the producer of the hit movie Bisola Alanu which brought Lola Margaret to the limelight. Late Brisket was a member of the Theater And Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN).
