Some Ghanaians have petitioned the UK Serious Fraud Office to investigate and sanction Sir David Adjaye, a renowned Ghanaian architect. The petition which was intercepted by CitizenOne was also copied to the Queen. According to the petitioners including Mensah Thompson of Alliance for Social Equity and Public Accountability (ASEPA), the successful architect connived with the government of Ghana to steal some 23. 7 million dollars from the state coffers in the name of designing the national cathedral.
They stated that the Ghanaian constitution requires that such expenses go through parliament which did not happen in this case. The petitioners also want the Queen to withdraw all awards honoured the renowned architect as well. Check the petition below. ” Sir David Frank Adjaye is a Ghanaian- British architect, who was knighted in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to architecture following an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) appointment in 2007.
He is a son of a privileged Ghanaian diplomat, who was sent to Britain at the age of nine. On the back of this migration, Adjaye benefited from the British educational system and got a BA in Architecture from London South Bank University in 1990 as well as an MA in 1993 from the Royal College of Art.
Having had ridden on the back of the resourceful British education system, Adjaye has been able to undertake larger scale projects including the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Washington D. C. , U. S. , the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo and neighbourhood libraries in Washington, D. C.
Having had the privilege of a silver spoon in his mouth and rising to even receive the 2021 Royal Gold Medal, the least he couldn’t have done is to avoid action that will bring shame to Her Majesty the Queen.
Contrary to the expectations that the privilege Adjaye would sympathize with the underprivileged school children and students who sit under trees for classes, Adjaye has teamed up with the corrupt government officials to deepen the trauma of Ghanaians as the meagre public funds get wasted.
At the blind side of the Parliament of Ghana, 32million cedis taken from the poor Ghanaian has been paid to Adjaye Associates in the name of designing a senseless and needless National Cathedral of Ghana, which is said to be a promise the Ghanaian President Nana Akuffo Addo made to his God and not the Ghanaian people.
This money could have built 50 classroom blocks for the poor students of Ghana.
Given the fact that it is criminal to receive money from Government of Ghana without Parliament approval, we want to petition your good office to ascertain and enforce the relevant punishments on Adjaye as enshrined in UK laws.
We also call on the Queen and the UK government to withdraw all awards and dissociate themselves from this shame and greed.”
Meanwhile Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has said he is not surprised the president has remained mute over the issue. He said he believes the commander in chief of the Ghana Armed Forces must be embarrassed over the scandals upon scandals befalling the holy project. Ablakwa was speaking in an exclusive interview with TV3 when he made this assertion.
He said a future NDC Government will consult Ghanaians before proceeding on the national cathedral project.
