The Member of Parliament for Takoradi Constituency who doubles as the Western Regional Minister, Hon Kwabena Okyere Mensah Darko has suggested an interesting alternative plan people in flood prone area should use when it starts raining heavily.

Most parts of Takoradi particularly Mpohor and it environs flooded after few hours of rainfall. The Western Regional Minister and a team of media officers from selected radio stations in Takoradi went round to inspect the flooded areas whiles visiting victims of the flood.

Addressing the media, Hon. Okyere Darko Mensah suggested that people who live in flood prone areas or low laying areas should be fast and relocate to their family relatives or friends outside the flooded area to prevent any unfortunate incident. ” As people living in this area you must always have a plan B. If you know that you are is flood prone get a brother or a sister and immediately it starts raining you go to them to accommodate you for one or two weeks.

When that happens nothing bad will happen, you can easily come back when the water drains. If you don’ t have a plan B you will keep complaining and it will keep flooding till something bad happens” the Western Regional Minister told the victims.

Regardless of the plan B proposed above, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah admitted that most of the flooding in the region is purely technical and are engineering faults. According to him the engineer for those drainage made the ending part smaller so it can not hold the amount of water it collects.

To solve this the Region will target these flood prone areas and construct bigger drainages just that there is too much pressure on the budget. In some areas, he stated that notice cannot be done to stop the flooding because of the topography.
