Government of Ghana is spending millions of cedis on the National Cathedral which was initially a personal promise of His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo. However, it might interest you to know that Nigeria also built their National Cathedral without the Federal Government spending even one naira in the project.

Throughout the project, not even a single penny was withdrawn from taxpayers money to fund the project. Their Cathedral which is multi religious purposed was fully funded by religious institutions in the country.

These institutions in their own way contributed almost 30 million dollars. At the point when the churches weren’ t getting enough money, the board in church of the Cathederal developed a smart strategy. The President of Nigeria at that time was made the treasurer for the project.

Their aim was to attract more donations and encourage more Nigerians to contribute by using the popularity of their President. Soon after making President Obasanjo the face, more donations came from individuals and government didn’ t have to contribute.

Mr Bright Simon given a summary of what transpired said ” Go to Nigeria and see the so- called national church, it was not built by or funded by the state.

In fact, from 1989 to 2004, it languished because they could not find the money and then the government decided that it will put some impetus behind it by the president of the country becoming the national treasurer as a means of mobilization”

“Then the Christian denominations mobilized resources to the tune of 3 billion Naira which today is less than 30 million dollars to build that beautiful edifice you see in Abuja by 2005

The government didn’t put a single cent in it,”
