A Facebook user alleged that Ghana Airport Company Limited chaired by newly appointed Chairman, Paul Adom Otchere spent a whopping amount of GH¢ 84, 000 on only 3 Christmas trees for decorations at Kotoka International Airport.
In addition, the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Adaklu said Mr Adom Otchere totally failed in buying those trees. Setting aside the cost of the 3 Christmas trees, Hon. Adaklu clarified that it is not the duty of a board chairman to procure things used by the airport but rather the best procedure was to allow management to handle procurement.
The board Chairman of Ghana Airports Company Limited and host of Good Evening Ghana responding to the above allegations said ” Dear folks, my attention has been drawn to a social media post (herein attached ) grossly misrepresenting facts about Christmas inspirations that were mounted at the Kotoko International Airport.
Setting the records straight, Mr Paul Adom Otchere revealed that those three beautiful Christmas tree standing at Terminal 3 and 3 others altogether cost GHC 34, 000, which was graciously provided by Jandel Limited at a heavy discount.
(We thank Jandel Limited)” ” The other inspirations were provided by Favors and Arts for a total cost of GHC 84, 000 out of which GHC 50, 000 was obtained via sponsorship. ”
On the other hand, the Ministry of Transportation has also issued another statement contrary to the claims of Mr. Paul Adom Otchere. According to the ministry the tree in question was not bought by management but rather a private entity.”
Please be informed that the Christmas decorations for 2021 was rented and not procured for by the GACL. Hence there was no procurement nor bidding process for the award of contract. Christmas decorations I’m question were rented and paid for by a sponsor. There’d, no contract was awarded by GACL for the purpose.”
