The FixTheCountry Movement on Thursday, 16th June, 2022 held a press conference in Accra to demand accountability on amount of money paid to the National Cathedral and how those funds were used. Among their 15 shortlisted demands, FixTheCountry Movement wants to know the cost involved in a stone which was bought from Israel.
According to reports, Government procured a holy stone from Israel and will be put on for exhibition and other spiritual purposes in the National Cathedral.
The association has requested management of the project to tell Ghanaians how much was this holy stone, what was the cost of transporting it from Israel to Ghana and all other expenditures involved.
Submitting a right to information request to the National Cathedral Secretariat seeking access to the following information. Among their demands, the movement wants a detailed account of total Public Funds received by the National Cathedral Secretariat towards the construction of the National Cathedral.
Initially, the project was said to be funded by private persons and various churches of which donations were made and is still been made.
FixTheCountry Movement wants the secretariat to reveal how much they how received so far. A short code, *979# was launched by the Finance Minister Mr Ken Ofori Atta during the 2022 budget reading for Ghanaians to contribute their quota to the project.
Again, the requestors demanded for the total Amount raised through the short code *979#. Total amount raised or received other than from public funds and a list of all donors to the National Cathedral. That is all churches, state owned companies, private entities, foreign embassies etc.
Finally, a breakdown of total expenditure of the National Cathedral Secretariat. The National Cathedral Secretariat through this communique has been asked to explain details each and every expenditure made since the beginning of the project.
