The late formal vice president of Ghana Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah- Arthur was an economist, academic, and politician who will be forever remembered by Ghanaians.
The politician served as the vice president of Ghana’ s 4th Republic, in office from 6 August 2012 to 7th January 2017 under former president John Dramani Mahama. Watch this video below.
Before his appointment by former president Mahama, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah- Arthur was the governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2009 to 2012. Former President Mahama was nominated as the president following the sudden death of his boss former president John Atta Mills.
The former governor of the Black of Ghana was then nominated by former president Mahama as his vice president and was sworn into office on August 2012. Born on 29th April 1951, Amissah- Arthur died on 29th June 2018 at the 37 Military Hospital after reportedly collapsing at the Air Force Gym during his usual routine morning workout session. He was last seen in public during the launch of a book by his Matilda Amissah- Arthur.
President Addo Akufo- Addo on Facebook wrote, ” I have learned with shock and great sadness the sudden death of the former Vice President of the Republic, His Excellency Paa Kwesi Amissah- Arthur” .He also decided him as a longstanding public servant, who discharged his duties with dignity, adding: ” The news of his death is unfortunate, since he appeared to have a lot to contribute to the public life of our country. ”
A state funeral, attended by several dignitaries was held for him on 27th July 2018 at the Accra International Conference Center after which his body accomplished by a military cortege.
He was married to Matilda Amissah- Arthur and they were blessed with two children.
Before his death, the former vice president was a Christian who worshipped at the Calvary Methodist church at Adabraka in the nation’s capital, Accra.
