The Inspector- General of Ghana Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare’ s unexpected response in a four- page statement to the diplomat and British High Commissioner raised lots of concerns amongst Ghanaians as prominent individuals keep deliberating on the alarming issue.
Speaking in a recent interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile show, the member of parliament for North- Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed that, the IGP, Dampare shouldn’ t have personally attacked the British High Commissioner in the four- page statement over Oliver Baker Vormawor’ s arrest but rather discussed the issue with the interior ministry on how best to effectively resolve the issue.
In addition to this, IGP, Dampare was later urged to help uphold the peace and international relations with the United Kingdom ” It does appear to me that, there has been all manner of excesses because of emotions and anger. If you read the IGP’ s four- page statement carefully, you see a lot of emotions.
Look, a security chief doesn’ t talk to a diplomat that way, particularly when one of our threats now is terrorism.
All our neighbors have been attacked and we are talking about sharing intelligence; you need all of these partners to share intelligence with you to help and I know of the extensive support that we are receiving from our international partners.
I think that the IGP overreached, he went overboard. He should have had a discussion with the interior minister” , Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphatically revealed.
