The President of the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana, Mr Jerry Martins Aziamati has alleged that the Ministry Of Health is selling employment opportunities to unemployed nurses as high as Gh150, 000 to Gh¢ 20, 000.
He revealed that a lot of graduate nurses and midmives are in the house unemployed despite government’ s promise to post them. Surprisingly the few who get posted have to cough out hundreds of cedis before they get posted.
Literally, postings at the Health Ministry is now sold at high prices only sons and daughters of rich men can afford. According to him, the ministry is engrossed in corruption as far as the posting of nurses and midwives is concerned. Backing his allegations with some evidence, he claimed that 125 out of the thousands of unemployed nurses were post.
The 125, Mr Azamato alleged that they had to pay between GHS15, 000 and GHS20, 000 to secure the postings. ” Those of us who cannot afford the amount are wasting away at home”.
He added that the amount of money a nurse pay will also determine where he or she will be posted. The higher you pay, the better place a person will be posted and when you pay less you risk going to a remote area.
The President of the Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana continued that the rest of his colleagues are helpless because of how postings are sold now.
Especially some people graduated as far back 2015, 2016, 2017 to 2020 but they are still at home because they don’ t have such amounts to buy postings.
He concluded by making an appeal to the President, His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo to investigate all the officials and oppointees at the Health Ministry and punish people who will be found guilty.
