The member of parliament for North- Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has recently expressed immense disappointment in the Ghana police service and the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo Dampare considering the recent exhibition by the officers during the Nkoranza demonstration amongst others.
Speaking in a recent interview on the ” Good Morning Ghana” show, the North- Tongu MP on the ticket of the largest opposition party, NDC, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed immense worry aside highlighting that, the Ghana police service must exhibit Professionalism aside using the right means to calm agitated civilians down irrespective of the situation and not cause more harm to already grieving families as witnessed at Nkoranza. ” Increasingly, crowd control appears to be a challenge of the Ghana police service.
If they must do some retraining, they must build capacity, they should because if an incident occurs, the community agitates. The reaction rate is too low. As we speak, there is no statement on the specific matters just to assure and quickly visit the families.
When you leave a vacuum, it leads to more agitations, and then when the agitations commence; in seeking to control the crowd, riot, you kill more people, and you injure more people. So, what have we achieved; you are going to get the community more outraged? We want to see high professionalism; we demand it.
There is a reason why you are a police officer, well trained and we spend all of these taxpayers’ money on you so that you have a better threshold” , Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa emphatically stated.
