The renowned political analyst, Professor H. K. Prempeh recently took the opportunity to highlight the origination of most political parties in the country alongside other policies that led to the rule of democracy in the country.
Speaking on the most anticipated ” Joy Change” show on JoyNews, Professor H. K. Prempeh highlighted that, the evolution of political parties began during the Gold Coast years and the Second World War period hence, municipal elections took place leading to the formation of political parties in the country.
Professor H. K. Prempeh later highlighted that, even though most political parties have ruled the country to date, Ghanaians seem not contemptuous and confused at the same time considering how frustrated some individuals are about the absence of checks and balances in the country. ” We have been a party people for quite some time. It goes way back in history.
Political parties first emerged in Ghana during the Gold Coast years and not as we usually assume in the post- Second World War period, they actually started much earlier in municipal elections. So, when the colonials opened the door in some selected urban centers or cities, to elections to seat on town councils, parties began to emerge.
So, party formations have something to do with having the right to elect representatives into a legislative assembly or into political office. . . Ghanaians are frustrated about the checks and balances” , Professor H. K. Prempeh emphatically revealed.
