The member of parliament and deputy majority leader on the ticket of the ruling party, NPP, Afenyo Markins has recently done the unexpected after he descended heavily on the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, and other members over challenging the implementation of the controversial electronic transaction levy in the law court.
Speaking in a recent interview on TV3 Network, the renowned lawyer and deputy majority leader, Afenyo Markins unexpectedly highlighted that, it was premature on the part of the minority caucus in parliament to seek the court’ s intervention aside from petitioning the court to overturn the passage of the electronic transaction levy even though the same matter could have been discussed within parliament hence, building a form of consensus between the two opposing parties. ”
My expectation is that the rancor and fiscal majority and those things that we saw in December would never repeat itself and I am glad to see that our colleagues in the minority demonstrated political maturity by expressing their descent in aspects of government policy in a much more acceptable way, by using the court system.
Surprised to say that, I hold the view that, the self- seeking in court was rather premature and that we could have used our internal legislative mechanisms to get solutions.
But being that as it may, a politician would always have options and lookout for the best to choose. I look forward to off- broadening good relationships” , the deputy majority leader in parliament, Afenyo Markins emphatically stated.
