The deputy minister for land and natural resources responsible for lands and forestry, Benito Owusu has finally come out to set the records straight over the Achimota forest brouhaha aside highlighting that, given the monetary value of the Achimota forest lands, the incumbent government would have paid more in compensation to the custodial owners of the portions in the EI 144.
In addition to this, Benito Owusu highlighted that the old family is entitled to claim 361. 5 acres of land since they have not been paid compensation.
The deputy minister for land and natural resources responsible for lands and forestry, Benito Owusu later revealed that the incumbent government is putting all hands on deck in other to provide leases for the family who were promised leases but never had them during the NDC’ s tenure. ” This has happened in Accra on several occasions from all preceding government and previous governments.
So, yes, we are all concerned about the environment but what about the family and when we don’ t have the financial resource to pay previous governments when they granted the leases.
We’ re they lying to the family or what? Let me ask this question, you granted the lease that at least they should have some portion of the land back and all these years they have not been able to access it but they have a lease. With the minority reaction, that is what I am saying they were there when the government granted leases to the family.
Those leases, have they been able to assess them. If you read the statement by the family, they say it clear they have never been able to have access to them though they have been paid; they have been granted leases and that is the question” , the deputy minister for land and natural resources responsible for lands and forestry, Benito Owusu emphatically revealed.
