The coalition of commercial transport operators in Ghana has recently come out to clear the air over the 20% rise in transport fares across the various regions in the country.
Speaking in a recent interview on the most anticipated show on JoyNews, the spokesperson for the coalition of commercial transport operators and concerned drivers’ association, David Agboado took the opportunity to reveal that, the 20% increment in transport fares was an initiative to protect the interest of commercial drivers else, most concerned drivers would lose their businesses considering how state- owned transport corporation has unexpectedly increased their fares.
” When somebody says it is not uniform, I would say no it is very uniform because it is the coalition of commercial transport that met and come up with this decision; It is not anything political.
The coalition of commercial transport operators met and took the decision. If care is not taken, we will lose our businesses and livelihood. Some government- owned and state transport corporation formerly at Aflao was charging Ghc 39 per head but now as expected, they are now charging Ghc 51.
Even government- owned institutions have increased their prices and so if we do it, there is nothing wrong because we want to protect our interests.
We have increased fares by 20%” the spokesperson for the concerned drivers association, David Agboado emphatically revealed.
