The Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa belonging to the minority caucus in collaboration with the district Health Directorate has removed all the charges victims of s£xual assualts had to pay when filing a complaint.

Before this intervention by Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, victims of s£xual offences were asked to pay between GHS150 and GHS400 to have their police medical forms filled by doctors.

This meant that if you are rap£d and s£xaully assualted, you can only report to the police when you have the afforementioned fees. Without these charges, victims cannot get justice. According to Hon. Okudzeto these charges prevented many victims from reporting to the police because they don’ t have money. We have with immediate effect, North Tongu abolished all charges victims of s£xual offences are required to pay when they submit police medical forms for a doctor’ s report. The North Tongu District Health Director and the Medical Superintendents of the Battor Catholic Hospital and the Tagadzi Polyclinic are fully on board to implement this latest MP’ s initiative. To Okudzeto Ablakwa and North Tongu Health officers, people who rap£, defile and commit other s£xual offenses should be punished by law but the charges became a barrier and many went scot free. Gone are the days when victims kept quiet for lack of money, now filing a complaint is free in North Tongu Constituency.
