Following remarks he brought about during his Ghana at a Crossroads presentation, John Mahama has received a barrage of vitriolic abuse. One of the more intriguing statements made by the former president was his intention to eliminate the E- levy if elected in 2025.
The administration, according to John Mahama, is ineffective, having bankrupted the economy and now attempting to bleed Ghanaians through the electronic tax. Andrew Egyapa Mercer, MP for Sekondi and Deputy Minister, said on Good Morning Ghana today, Tuesday, May 10, 2022, that John Mahama is unfit to return to power because he despises taxes and has demonstrated his backwardness by stating that the levy will be repealed.
However, Annie Afua Ampofo, Randy Abbey’ s stand- in host, pointed out that John Mahama never claimed he disliked taxes. She clarified that John Mahama only stated that the electronic levy will be repealed, not all taxes. Egyapa Mercer, on the other hand, stated that the e- levy is a tax, and that by stating that he will remove the electronic tax, he is implying that he despises taxes in general.
The host, on the other hand, did not take this well and informed Hon Mercer that he was misinterpreting what John Mahama had stated. At that point, Felix Kwakye Ofosu spoke out, asking if Akufo- campaigning Addo’ s against VAT in 1995 meant he despised taxes. ” Why did he introduce the e- levy if he hated taxes? ” Felix wondered.
Ghana’s former television host, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama issued a press statement dubbed Crossroad. Among the many things he menty, one of his assertions that has gotten a lot of people discussions has to do with the E- Levy.
According to him, the NPP administration is taxing Ghanaians excessively while failing to produce jobs for the people. He also indicated that if he and his party are voted into power in December 2024, he will abolish the E- Levy tax to relieve Ghanaians of the burden.
