MOTHER’S DAY: Meet The Mothers Of Past And Current Presidents Of Ghana

Behind every successful man there is a woman but these successful men cannot be discussed without talking about the roles their respective mothers played in raising such leaders for the country. As we celebrate Mothers’ Day, the following as the women who gave birth to some past and current Presidents of Ghana.

Kwame Nkrumah

The first and foremost on the list is Madam Elizabeth Nyaniba who gave birth to Ghana’ s First President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. According to historians, Madam Lizzy really suffered before giving birth to the hero Kwame Nkrumah.

Late John Rawlings
 Fast forward to the 4th Republican dispensation, Madam Victoria Agbotui is also the biological mother of Ghana’ s former President Jerry John. Late President Rawlings was in power from 1992 until he handed over power to Ex President John Agyekum Kuffour in 2001.
Ex President Kuffour
Ex President John Agyekum Kuffour is a royalty born to Nana Ama Dapaah who was queen mother in the Ashanti Kingdom. Most of President Kuffour’ s life was spent in the palace with her mother who transformed a Prempeh College student into a national asset.
Late Atta Mills
 Madam Mercy Dawson Amoah in Central Region of Ghana gave birth to Late President John Fifii Atta Mills who rose to the highest office in 2009. Late President Mills was the second child (and first son) among seven siblings.
John Dramani Mahama

Hajia Abiba Nnaba who passed away in 2016 is the biological mother of EX President Mahama who is also aspiring to be the 2024 presidential Candidate of NDC

President Nana Akuffo Addo

Finally on the list is the mother of His Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo. Mrs Adeline Sylvia Eugenia Ama Yeboakua Akuffo Addo was a first Lady in the second republic of Ghana as the wife of Edward Akuffo Addo and mother of Ghanaian president Nana Akuffo Addo. She died at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on 21st March 2004, aged 86
