8 Years Is Not Enough, Give NPP More Years- NPP Executive Advocates

The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Yaw Buaben Asamoa has started an campaign which aims at advocating for a Presidential term of office more than 8 years.

Article 66 of the 1992 Constitution clearly states that a person elected as President shall, subject to clause (3) of this article, hold office for a term of four years beginning from the date on which he is sworn in as President.

It further stipulated that person shall not be elected to hold office as President of Ghana for more than two terms. Despite the above constitutional provision, Mr Yaw Buabeng Asamoa thinks 8 years is too short for any government to develop at country.

Giving classical examples to support his claims, Mr Asamoa said for instance the New Patriotic Party has been laying foundations for this country.

However when the party leaves power after 8 years, NDC only comes back to steal, kill and destroy. At a press conference held in Accra on Wednesday, 4th May, 2022 the NPP Director of Communication said ” 8 elections in the democratic dispensation offered by the 1992 constitution with four wins each by the NPP and the NDC, it is time Ghanaians choose decisively which party will lead them into a future of hope and prosperity” . To him Ghana should review the constitution and extend the terms of office for a President.

In conclusion, he believes Ghana is still at the crossroad just as Mahama said because NDC came into power and made the economy worse.

“The 8 Years rotation remains painful and meaningless ritual of the NPP continues to build every I years and the NDC continues to pull down in subsequent 8- years cycle. It in this context that former President John Dramani Mahama seeks to characterized Ghana as being at a crossroads in his recent public lecturer”
