The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has pleaded on the Education Ministry to come to the aid of over 6, 000 KNUST students who have been deferred for not paying their school fees. KNUST Academic Board sent deferment text messages to some 6, 000 students who are have not paid 75% of their school fees as at Tuesday, 19th April, 2022 for various reasons. ” Dear student, your programme has been deferred as you have not met the minimum requirement of the KNUST fees Credit and Debt Management Policy.
Thank you. Whiles majority of these students are alleged to have used their fees on sports betting, others too have genuine financial problems However, the NDC MP thinks the decision is too harsh and should be rescinded.

” The decision by KNUST authorities to defer the courses of some 6, 000 students for non- payment of fees is most harsh and inconsiderate considering the current economic crisis.
I appeal to the Ministry of Education to urgently intervene and save the future of these students” he wrote on his official Facebook page.

In these worrying times, he suggested that students support agencies like the Scholarship Secretariat, Students’ Loan Trust, GNPC Scholarship Foundation, Cocobod Scholarship and GETFund should extend immediate relief to our 6, 000 young Ghanaians who have been deferred.
He revealed that KNUST students from his constituency who have been affected have all been listed and provided the needed support.
